It was a very busy week in the Music room! I kicked off the week by sharing one of my favorite musicians with all of the students. Ella Fitzgerals was our Musician of the Month! From K through 4th grade, we learned about Ella's tough life and amazing scatting skills. Our kindergarteners, 2nd graders, and 3rd graders all had the opportunity to watch a biographical video about Ella followed by a quick video of her scatting with Mel Torme. 2nd and 3rd graders followed up that viewing with a listening sheet that went along with one of Ella's hit songs, "Blue Skies." Kindergarteners colored a picture of Ella while listening to several more examples of Ella's biggest hits. Meanwhile, in 4th grade, the students listened to a few of Ella's songs and took notes on her life as I lectured from the front of the room.
Then, starting on Tuesday, Ms. Carson took over as the Music Teacher! She is wrapping up her student teaching at Leal and is in charge of all lessons for these two weeks. She is working with the 4th graders on Recorders, 3rd graders on instrument families, 2nd graders on color songs for their Spring assembly, and Kindergartners on musical opposites and nursery rhymes.
