Well, it's hard to believe, but our end of block assembly is NEXT WEEK! You should've received a note way back in January and a reminder today of our 2 Music and Dance assemblies on Wednesday, February 15th. The 3/4/5 classes will perform at 9:30am. The K/1/2 classes will have their performance at 1:30. At the bottom of this blog, I am including some links that the 4th graders might want to use to practice. These are just links right off of the Music K-8 magazine website that I use in class. The kids were concerned that this would spoil the performance for parents. I suggested that maybe they ask their parents to help them find the links but then maybe give them some privacy to practice. ;-) For each one, you will probably have to scroll down a bit to find the specific song.
Beyond that, we had our final Musician of the Month this week. In honor of Black History Month and the fact that Mrs. McCannon's class is playing a recorder song inspired by him, we studied Duke Ellington! 2nd and 4th graders got to listen to several of his jazz pieces and learn quite a bit about his life. Kindergarteners got to see a clip of him playing his famous song, Take the A Train, as well as listening to his version of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Overture. That was a nice tie in to our January musician of the month, Tchaikovsky!
I'm looking forward to our assembly next week. The kids are sounding awesome! We hope you'll be able to make it!
