Last week, each class spent a day learning about one of the most prolific film score composers (if not THE most) of all time, Mr. John Williams! With a name as common as John Williams, you may think you've never heard of him or of his music, but let me just throw out a few movie titles for you.
Jaws
Superman
ALL of the Star Wars movies
Jurassic Park
Harry Potter
Indiana Jones
Saving Private Ryan
E.T.
You get my point! The man has written some of the most iconic movie themes of all time, and that's not all! The music that plays behind Bob Costas every couple of years during the Olympics? That's called "Olympic Fanfare and Theme," and you guessed it, John Williams wrote that. And if you're a fan of the NBC nightly news, you hear his music every night as the theme song for that program as well. The kids had a blast playing a guessing game to see if they could name the movies that went with each theme. Often, they could name the movie in just a few notes! I am a LITTLE disturbed at how many of our younger students have seen Jaws though! *shudder* ;-)
Oh, and one last thing, John's son was the lead singer of a little 80s band called Toto. "God blessed the rains down in Africa……"
