Today is Ms. Carson's last day as a student teacher at Leal! We are going to be sorry to see her go and know that she is going to be AWESOME in her next placement, and that her students at her future job will be lucky to have her. :-)
Over the past two weeks, Ms. Carson has worked with the Kindergarteners on their musical opposites, singing voices, nursery rhymes, and lots and lots of musical play that enhances their musicality and emotional stability for learning. The 2nd graders have been focused on working the lines/spaces of the Treble Clef with the help of Freddie the Frog as well as learning the first 3 songs that they will eventually perform at their assembly in the Spring. 3rd graders have focused their attention on the first two instrument families, Woodwind and Strings. They studied how vibration works in both families, learned the names of the instruments, saw a video of how a Flute and Violin are made, played some games, and even built their own harmonicas and diddley bows to take home after that section of the unit! 4th graders have learned the first 3 notes of the recorder (B,A,G) and are starting to make a little more music and a little less noise. ;-)
In our final week with Ms. Carson, we focused our attention on activities related to Halloween and Day of the Dead as well as getting in some more play and having Ms. Carson show off her own personal French Horn to the 3rd graders. Pictures of activities that have happened over the last few weeks are now added in the Student Work page on this site if you are interested.
Next week, we have our parent play days, our November Musician of the Month, and our final week of this Fine Arts block! Whew! The year is flying by!
