It doesn't seem possible, but we are already halfway through our first fine arts block!
4th Graders FINALLY ;-) got to start playing recorders this week. Every class learned how to play "B" and "A" on the treble clef. Next week, we will work on getting our fingers to consistently find those two positions in increasingly difficult musical passages. At the END of next week, students will also learn about Recorder Karate and MAY get to take their recorders home for the weekend. (Sorry, parents!)
1st graders are continuing to sing and play as 1st graders should. :-) This week, we spent a bit of time focusing in on Bluebird, a song from last year. It was even a "secret song" this week that students had to figure out. Every class did a great job with that auditory task! This is great news! Auditory development is a key factor in BOTH literacy and behavior. So, being able to figure out auditory puzzles in music class is good practice and will have benefits beyond the music room door. Next week, we will likely start learning the difference between BEAT and RHYTHM. This is yet another music element building block that we will focus on this year so that we can build our musical architecture for the future.
Have a great weekend!
